Polymer banknotes fully replaced paper banknotes in Australia as part of the New Note Series. Although the first polymer banknote was issued in 1988, the rollout of polymer banknotes across all denominations began in 1992 and lasted until 1996, with polymer equivalents of each denomination being rolled out on a yearly basis.
